There’s a new barre in town and it’s called Platform! This new class is totally different the standard Pure Barre class. Body and mind need to adjust to a different cadence, cardiovascular intensity and range of motion. Now that I think about it even the music is faster in the Platform class!

The small muscle movements you are accustomed to are not a part of this new class. Big movements, high kicks, fast moving / pumping arms and the aid of a platform step make this a cardio class. Do not let the platform fool you, this is not a step aerobics class (although you wouldn’t get a second look in leg warmers!). The class is based on all of the original movements and postures core to barre classes.
Both platform and barre classes give me an amazing workout and there is definite value in having both in my workout routine.
After my first class I was sold although, as with all new classes, my subsequent classes were better. It took a class or two until my transitions became fluid. I am fairly coordinated but to really maximize a workout you need to anticipate what’s next and be ready.
They recommend 1-2 platform classes a week. Both platform and barre classes give me an amazing workout and there is definite value in having both in my workout routine. As a cardio junkie, getting a core workout and cardio together just seems like a no-brainer. A few ladies at my local studio do the barre and platform classes back to back. On the same day! Animals!!
Try a Pure Barre Platform class you will love it! Just don’t forget to bring a towel and water!
*Always modify or avoid an exercise if you have a preexisting injury. It is a good idea to tell your instructor prior to the class. As a runner I am very careful with my hamstrings and knees.*
